Harry Tipping (pictured above) was the people's warden at the ancient Parish Church of Llangiwg. A member of the old and respected Tipping family of Rhydyfro, Harry looked after the church and churchyard, keeping everything in perfect order. He also ensured that the paths leading to the church were kept clear and in good condition. The wood which leads to the church is still known locally as Tipping's wood.

In 1969 Harry was the subject of a 20 minute documentary - "Harry Tipping of Rhydyfro, South Wales". It can be viewed at the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales in Aberystwyth.

Harry passed away in 1976, aged 70, and is buried with his wife Hilda at Llangiwg Church.

(A special thank you to Ann Petherick-Lewis for the photograph of Harry.)
